3. Advanced Reading: The Doppler Effect in Astronomy
The Doppler Effect refers to the change in frequency or wavelength of a wave in relation to an observer. In astronomy, this principle is used to determine whether a star or galaxy is moving toward or away from Earth. If the light from a star shifts toward the red end of the spectrum (redshift), it indicates that the object is moving away. Conversely, a blueshift means the object is approaching. This phenomenon has provided crucial evidence for the expansion of the universe and forms the basis of much of modern cosmology.
